  • HKINF Welcomes Baldwin's of St James's as Official Auctioneer of June 2019 Show

HKINF is pleased to announce that Baldwin's of St James's will be one of the official auctioneers of the 8th Hong Kong International Numismatic Fair in June 2019.

St. James's Auctions was established in 2004 as the auction division of Knightsbridge Coins, a thriving business founded in the mid-1970s by Stephen Fenton. Based in the prestigious quarter of St. James's in the heart of London, St. James's Auctions rapidly grew into one of the UK’s most reputable auction houses for coins, medallions, tokens, paper money and related objects.

In January 2017, St. James’s Auctions began a new venture with Baldwin’s Auctions – a division of A. H. Baldwin & Sons Ltd. that, having been founded in 1872, was one of the largest and longest established numismatic dealers and auction houses in the world. It was decided to merge the two names, forming a new auction company called Baldwin’s of St. James’s.

Baldwin's of St. James's prides itself on offering specialised attention, personal service and a bespoke marketing strategy that will ensure that each lot and each consignment achieves the very best results for consignors. On January 13, 2019, Baldwin’s of St. James’s set an auction record for a British coin when a 1703 Vigo five guineas piece sold at £845,000 including premium.

In June 2019, Baldwin's of St. James's joins hands with the Hong Kong International Numismatic Fair (HKINF) to make its auction debut in Hong Kong. The June Hong Kong auction features the third part of the Paul Hayward Collection of the Coins of Edward VII.

Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is now accepting submissions for on-site authentication, grading and encapsulation of paper money in Hong Kong. The event will be held from November 26-December 7, 2018, at the offices of NGC Hong Kong Ltd., its Hong Kong affiliate.

Submitters are encouraged to submit as early as possible. PMG will update this article when it has cut off on-site grading submissions, and all submissions after that date (including for previously scheduled appointments) will only be accepted for PMG expedited grading (until Sunday, December 9).

PMG will also accept submissions at the PMG booth at the Hong Kong International Numismatic Fair at the Mira on Dec. 7-9.

For submissions that cannot be done on-site, the estimated turnaround time is three weeks (not including shipping time).

Note: The turnaround time is approximate and not guaranteed. Submissions will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis and, in the event of extremely high demand, later submissions may require a longer turnaround time.

PMG Collectors members (Associate and higher) and PMG Authorized Dealers can make an appointment to submit at PMG's Hong Kong office. Not a member? Learn how to join here.

Founded in 2005, PMG is the world’s leading and largest third-party paper money grading service with more than 3,000,000 notes certified, more than half of them from China. Every note that PMG certifies is backed by its comprehensive guarantee of grade and authenticity. The PMG Guarantee, combined with the accuracy, consistency and integrity of the PMG grading team, results in higher prices realized and greater liquidity for PMG-certified notes.

PMG will endeavor to complete all submissions at the earliest possible date. Turnaround times depend on the volume and type of submissions received, however, and PMG therefore cannot guarantee the turnaround time.

  • Clarification

The Hong Kong International Numismatic Fair (hereafter HKINF) deeply regrets and objects to an ungrounded statement issued by certain parties alleging that the official Chinese name of HKINF is changed recently with the intention to mimic the name of their show.

HKINF was first organized in December 2015 at the Mira Hong Kong Hotel by Eternity Numismatic Co., Ltd., with Heritage Auctions as its official Auctioneer. Starting from the 7th HKINF (December 7-9, 2018), the official Chinese name of HKINF will be changed from “恒博香港國際錢幣展銷會” to “香港國際錢幣展銷會” for the following reasons:

    1. To keep the Chinese name of HKINF consistent with its English name

After the deduction of the two Chinese characters “恒博”, the Chinese name of HKINF is now consistent with the official English name in meaning.

    1. To signify future cooperation with the Hong Kong International Coin Convention & Antique Watch Fair (HICC hereafter)

Held in the Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hong Kong Hotel, HICC is the longest-running coin show in Hong Kong. From March 2019 onwards, HKINF will work closely with HICC as the co-organizer and thus the Chinese name of HKINF is changed in accordance with HICC to signify a new relationship. Since HICC has been using the Chinese name “香港國際錢幣展銷會 (暨古董表交易會)” for 37 years, the accusation that such a name mimics other coin shows is unreasonable. HKINF intends to state firmly that the new official Chinese name of HKINF bears no relation to any other coin shows except for the Hong Kong International Coin Convention & Antique Watch Fair (HICC).

With all the fully support from numismatic collectors, we are proud to announce that the upcoming Fair will be expanded to a more spacious and comfortable venue in order to provide a better service and experience to all the exhibitors and visitors. For the previous fairs, we did our best to invite the international numismatic collectors as many as possible to join our fair.  And we succeeded in having them here from nearly 30 different countries and regions! This means, the exhibitor’s base has expanded. We never stop promoting the fair and our services to the collectors all over the world and thus we have confidence that more international numismatic collectors will be joining this event and bringing more ideas and collectibles to the fair.

The world’s leading auction house, Heritage Auctions (HA), is the official auction partner of the HKINF. The auction prior to the HKINF had gathered numismatic collectors worldwide to bid for the valuable coins and banknotes in the past years. The auction results are always uplifting and we believe that the upcoming auction will be also record-breaking. Together with the HA’s rich resources and experience as well as our unremitting efforts, the greatest benefit will certainly be brought to the numismatic industry.

At the fair, we always pay our utmost effort to provide a secure and comfortable environment for the business activities and knowledge exchange. We are ambitious to make HKINF one of the most important events in the numismatic industry and truly hope all the exhibitors and participants will enjoy themselves in the fair.

  • The 5th Hong Kong International Numismatic Fair Review

The 5th Hong Kong International Numismatic Fair (HKINF) was successfully held at the Mira Hotel from 8th to 10th December 2017. As the sole organizer of the Fair, we, Eternity Numismatic Company Limited, pride ourselves on receiving lots of appreciation and support from the numismatists and buyers all over the world, which had encouraged us to strive for excellence for the next fair.

67 exhibitors from nearly 30 different countries and regions had gathered at this international fair, including numismatic dealers, auction houses, and grading companies.  The diversity had made the fair a true international one.

We are always doing our best to promote the development of the numismatic industry in Hong Kong. Having received positive feedbacks for our fairs in the past years, we are strive for further improvement. We work hard to ensure a secure and comfortable environment for the buyers and exhibitors to trade, interact, and exchange ideas in the fair. To gain more coverage and support, we vigorously advance our services and recognition worldwide via various social media platforms in addition to our own website.  Meanwhile, we also proactively participate in different numismatic exhibitions.

Being HKINF’s official auction house, Heritage Auctions (HA)’s biannual numismatic auction had jointly made the Hong Kong Numismatic Golden Week. Given that, the biannual auction has a continuous increase; it has recorded a new sale high recently – from the first auction of 2.8 million USD in December 2015 to 5.5 million USD in December 2017. The successful bidding rate for banknotes and coins had reached over 90% and 99% respectively. We were grateful to receive more consignments with many high-graded lots than last year. The most remarkable lot was the extremely rare 1989 People’s Republic gold “Dragon and Phoenix” Proof Pattern 200 Yuan which was sold for 408,000 USD (PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC). The 1897 China Kiangnan, Kuang-hsu “Plain Edge” Proof ND, placed the 2nd highest sales price, 240,000 USD (PR65 NGC). Being one of the great condition rarities of the Provincial Chinese Dollars, the 1914 China Republic Yuan Shih-kai Silver Specimen Pattern “L. Giorgi” Dollar Year 3 sold for 192,000 USD (SP64 PCGS). As for the banknotes, 1953 China People’s Republic 10 Yuan Pick 870 marked the highest record for this auction, which sold for 40,800 USD (PMG Choice Uncirculated 64). The 1977 Hong Kong Chartered Bank $1000 Pick 81pm Face and Back Printer’s Models was sold for 33,600 USD (Gem 66 Uncirculated PMG) while the 1929 Sarawak $25 Pick 17s Specimen had been auctioned off for 20,400 USD (PMG 58 Choice About UNC).

As usual, PCGS, NGC and PMG had stationed in the fair to provide fast grading and free consultation services.

We cherish everyone’s support and every chance to learn from the fairs. We will continually improve in order to bring the best experience into the fair to everyone.

Submissions will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis and, in the event of extremely high demand, later submissions may require a longer turnaround time.

Submit for NGC grading, NCS conservation and PMG expedited grading before the show opens at the lounge on the 3rd floor of the Mira Hotel. NGC, NCS and PMG representatives will be accepting submissions from 10:00 to 18:00 on December 6 and 7.

    Show Submissions

Submit for NGC grading, NCS conservation and PMG expedited grading at booths A3-A6 during the HKINF.

All submissions received by NGC, NCS and PMG are shipped with insurance to the companies’ headquarters in the US for grading and, if requested, conservation. Free NGC and NCS Evaluations

David Camire, NCS President and NGC Finalizer, will be conducting free evaluations of coins at the HKINF. Evaluations will be provided 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:00, December 8-9. To ensure that we help as many people as possible, there is a limit of 10 coins per person for the free evaluations. Evaluations are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Note: Because evaluations are performed in a show environment, as opposed to our standard grading environment (with proper lighting conditions and facilities), all opinions should be used only as a guide. The grading opinion may change after the coins are submitted and evaluated at our office.

    Free PMG Evaluations

Chad Greenbach, a PMG Grading Finalizer, will be conducting free evaluations of paper money at the HKINF. Evaluations will be provided 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:00, December 8-10. To ensure that we help as many people as possible, there is a limit of 10 notes per person for the free evaluations. Evaluations are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Note: Because evaluations are performed in a show environment, as opposed to our standard grading environment (with proper lighting conditions and facilities), all opinions should be used only as a guide. The grading opinion may change after the notes are submitted and evaluated at our office.

Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) is now accepting submissions for on-site authentication, grading and encapsulation of paper money in Hong Kong. The event will be held from June 13-28, 2018, at the offices of NGC Hong Kong Ltd., its Hong Kong affiliate.

There was strong demand earlier this year when PMG, the world's largest third-party paper money grading service, offered on-site grading in Hong Kong for the first time.

Both vintage and modern notes from virtually every country will be accepted for this event. As an added benefit to its submitters, PMG will not charge any additional fees for the on-site grading. Please refer to the PMG Hong Kong Services and Fees chart for grading fees.

No submissions will be accepted after June 25 for this on-site grading event and it is possible that PMG will have to cut off on-site submissions earlier due to high demand. On-site grading submissions will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. This announcement will be updated once PMG determines that it can no longer accept on-site grading submissions, so please check back often.

If your notes cannot be done on-site, you will be notified by PMG's Hong Kong office and your notes will be shipped to PMG's headquarters in Sarasota, Florida, USA, for an expedited turnaround.

If you would like your notes to be included in the on-site grading event, you must write "On-site Grading" on the PMG Hong Kong Submission Form. If you would prefer that your notes be graded by PMG in the US, you can request "Expedited Grading Special" on the PMG Hong Kong Submission Form to have them shipped to PMG in the US for the expedited turnaround. For submissions that cannot be done on-site, the estimated turnaround time is three weeks (not including shipping time).

PMG will endeavor to complete all submissions at the earliest possible date. Turnaround times depend on the volume and type of submissions received, however, and PMG therefore cannot guarantee the turnaround time.
